CEPPWAWU was formed on 24 February 1999, as a result of a merger between two unions, Chemical Workers Industrial Union (CWIU) and Paper Printing and Allied Workers Union (PPWAWU). The union has a membership of 68 000 and a staff of 106 ranging from Administrators and Organisers to Researchers and Educators.
The union has members in industries ranging from Oil refineries, Explosives, Chemical, Pulp, Paper, Printing, Furniture, Saw Milling etc. and we are the majority union in all these industries. This has allowed the union to be in a strong position to bargain for its members.
