How do I Join CEPPWAWU?

You can join CEPPWAWU by completing a membership form and sending it to the office nearest to you or by inviting a union official to a meeting. (Offices and telephone numbers are listed below). Once you join, you will be allocated an official to assist you in all matters.

How much would I pay?

Our members currently pay 1% of their monthly wage, with a minimum of R20 and a maximum of R70. You will only start paying once the union has established an agreement with management, but you will still enjoy all the protections and rights of a member.

Why should I join CEPPWAWU?

CEPPWAWU offers you the benefits and protection of a large union that is organised across many related sectors. The union is negotiating with companies to ensure that it bargains centrally with most employers and thus unite with all workers in the industry. We have therefore been able to negotiate increases that are above the inflation rate and superior benefits. Negotiating through a Statutory Council will not offer you the benefits won by CEPPWAWU as illustrated above.

  • The union believes in Democracy and the right of members to decide on all issues pertaining to the union. You will elect shop stewards to represent you in all union meetings. You will be able to remove any shop steward that does not represent your interests.
  • As a member you will participate directly and have a say in labour laws being discussed at NEDLAC. You will receive reports and give mandates to shop stewards. Nedlac is discussing amendments to the Labour Relations Act (LRA) and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA). These laws will affect all workers. As a member of CEPPWAWU, you will join the millions of COSATU members that are deciding their fate.
  • Did you know that the government is discussing major changes in the Occupational Health and Safety Act through Nedlac? Ceppwawu is one of the unions ensuring that your rights are protected. We are full participants in this process.

We in CEPPWAWU fully understand that workers who are divided cannot meaningfully improve their working conditions. We reject without reservation any attempts to sow disunity amongst workers on the basis of race, nationality, creed, sex or religion. We declare that all workers share common interests regardless of such differences.
